Oktober 1981 in Chicago) war ein US-amerikanischer Psychoanalytiker �sterreichischer Herkunft. . Kohut gilt als Begr�nder einer eigenst�igen psychoanalytischen Tradition. Er begr�ndete die selbstpsychologische Richtung der Psychoanalyse und erarbeitete damit eine spezifische Behandlung des pathologischen Narzissmus bzw. narzisstischer St�rungen. Kohut unterscheidet einen gesunden Narzissmus als Ausdruck eines starken, lebensf�gen Selbst, das seine F�gkeiten erweitern und seine Bed�rfnisse befriedigen will, und einen pathologischen Narzissmus eines schwachen Selbst, das nur �ber die Vort�chung der eigenen Grandiosit�stabilisiert werden kann. Gelingt dies nicht, folgt eine Depression. Er erweiterte damit das Spektrum der psychoanalytisch behandelbaren St�rungen und schuf eine wesentliche Erg�ung zur Freudschen Triebtheorie und zur ich-psychologischen Richtung. Aufbauend auf Kohuts Werk und unter Einbeziehung der Erkenntnisse der neueren S�lings- und Kleinkindforschung entwickelte sich die intersubjektive Schule der Psychoanalyse. .
