Description

4to and oblong 12mo. Together 2 pp. In French. Correspondence with the French publishing house Stock and its director Maurice Delamain, concerning the French translation of Ortega y Gasset's "La rebelión de las masas" (The Revolt of the Masses). In the earlier letter, Ortega y Gasset informs Stock that he chose a new translator named Massoulard, not having been satisfied with the work of a previous translator named Duflot, and that he has received an offer from Gallimard and the Nouvelle Revue française for the publication of his book. However, the conditions offered by Stock and Gallimard were similar, while those for previous editions in German, English, Portuguese, Swedish etc. were "notably superior" to those offered by Stock. - In the second letter to Maurice Delamain, Ortega y Gasset thanks him for a checque and confirms a meeting. - "The Revolt of the Masses" was ultimately translated into French by Louis Parrot and not published by Stock until 1937. This was followed by a French translation of "Ideas and Beliefs" in 1945. - The letter from 1934 on stationery with printed letterhead. With recipient's marks and stamp, minor tears and rust-stains from paper clips; dust-stained.
