Description

From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Very good condition. - Pars 4, Fasc.3: ed. Leiva Petersen. - Wikipedia: Edmund Groag (2 February 1873, in Prerau 19 August 1945, in Vienna) was an Austrian classical scholar, who specialized in Roman history. After the Nazi takeover, Groag, who came from a Jewish family but had already converted to the Catholic faith in 1901, was forced into retirement in 1938. He survived the war and the persecution of the Jews in hiding in Vienna. Groag was primarily concerned with prosopography in his work on Roman history. Together with Arthur Stein he was entrusted by the Prussian Academy of Sciences with the new edition of the Prosopographia Imperii Romani. The first two volumes appeared in 1933 and 1936. In 1939 Groag and Stein had to relinquish the official editorship of the work, but continued to work on the third volume, which appeared in 1943 without the name on the title page.[3] In addition, Groag also wrote numerous prosopographical articles for the Realencyclope der classischen Altertumswissenschaft. - Arthur Stein (10 June 1871, in Vienna 15 November 1950, in Prague) was an Austrian-Czech historian and epigrapher. Because of his Jewish heritage, he was imprisoned at Theresienstadt concentration camp from July 1942 to May 1945. - Leiva Petersen (28 November 1912 - 17 April 1992) was a German classical philologist and publisher (Hermann Bhlaus Nachfolger).
