Description

Various formats. Altogether 10 pp. Largely private correspondence with Jane Catulle-Mendès, starting on 1 January 1922 with an homage to the late Catulle Mendès in a short postcard: "En traversant la ville de Catulle Mendès, je mets à vos pieds, Madame, l'hommage de mes sentiments respectueux avec les vœux de votre admirateur". - In a beautiful undated letter from Tarbes on two postcards that hark back to Derème's time as secretary of Armand Achille-Fould, deputy of the Hautes-Pyrénées Department, he informs Catulle-Mendès that he cannot visit her in Saint-Jean-de-Luz due to an election campaign, instead inviting her to Tarbes and reminding her that Jules Laforgue lived there. - In an interesting postcard from 30 April 1925, Derème asks Catulle-Mendès to vote on his behalf in two juries of literary prizes, one of which might be the Prix Archon-Despérouses, as he "lives in wagons" during the municipal elections. Derème's choices are the poets Louis Pize and Albert Flad, who is largely forgotten today. Pize won the Prix Archon-Despérouses of 1926 for "Les muses champêtres". - The remainder of the correspondence concerns meetings and invitations. The two-page manuscript (4to) entitled "La Province et l'Enfance" was apparently published in the far-right newspaper "L'Action française" on 1 November 1940, less than a year before Derème's death. - The manuscript shows marks in pencil, ink and fingerstains; several tears to the first page, partly affecting the text. Occasional tears, stains, and some browning over all.
