Description
12mo., First Edition, neat nineteenth century signature on front free endpaper; full contemporary speckled calf, sides with double frame border in gilt, expertly rebacked in calf to style, back with raised bands, second compartment with red leather label ruled and lettered in gilt, a remarkably well-preserved, bright, clean, crisp copy. Although now best known for his translations of Continental histories (most notably Rapin's 'History of England' ), Nicolas Tindal is remembered also for this wide-ranging classical text-book, and for his continuing support of Greenwich Hospital which houses his portrait by Knapton. EXTREMELY SCARCE.
