Description

London, Van Voorst, 1853. 8vo. lxv, 386 pp.; 174 steel engravings in the text. Green full morocco. Spine with five raised, gilt-bordered bands and gilt title; boards with gilt edges and rich gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. = A "de luxe" copy of this classical book on British crustaceans. With detailed illustrations of crabs, shrimps, etc., often emphasizing on taxonomically important parts, and with nice vignettes with romantic seaside scenes. Dedicated by the author, Thomas Bell, president of the Linnean Society, to Richard Owen. Some age-wear to the boards, skilfully rebacked (hardly noticeable), otherwise a very good, clean copy. Nissen ZBI, 294.
