8vo., First Edition, with coloured and monochrome plates, facsimiles in the text, pictorial front endpapers and rear endpaper map; ivory cloth, upper board and backstrip blocked and lettered in gilt, a fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper. Fascinating record of the author's war experience, beginning with escape from Hitler's Germany, enlistment in the Pioneer Corps, commission in the Royal Fusiliers, and posting to Charlottenburg (his birthplace) as Food and Transport Officer during the immediate post-war period. Extremely scarce.
