This catalog was prepared to accompany an exhibition held at Museum fur Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt, from October 30, 2009 to January 31, 2010. Andre Charles Boulle (1642- 1732) became the most famous French cabinetmaker and the preeminent artist in the field of marquetry in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Initially discovered by Jean Baptiste Colbert, Boulle spent his life working for the Sun King, Louis XIV, and other French royals. 121 works in the exhibition, about 75 of these are pieces of furniture or decorative arts. Also drawings and paintings. Almost all these works illustrated in color, a few in black & white. Also a section on 20th century furniture influenced by Boulle.
