A chapter from the English translation of his "Ein Requiem in Rot-Weiß-Rot" (Zurich 1946), which was published in 1946 in New York as "Austrian Requiem". - After the occupation and annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany in 1938, the former Austrian Chancellor was arrested, kept in solitary confinement and interned in various concentration camps. After the end of World War II, Schuschnigg emigrated to the United States and worked as a professor of political science at Saint Louis University from 1948 to 1967.
