To Edward Magrath, founder, member and secretary of the Athenaeum Club in London, regarding his subscription: "I have the honor to acknowledge the Receipt of your Letter of the 8th March calling my attention to the VIIIth Article of the Athenaeum Rules, & accordingly enclose a draft on Sir Francis Ommanney for the subscription required [.]". - Previously in the collection of the English novelist Catherine Hutton (1756-1846), with a few biographical notes in her handwriting. - Traces of former mounting on verso.
