Description
Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page. Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Mein Fräulein, warum denn gleich zweimal für dieselbe Familie? [.]". - Working in the studio of the Neo-Baroque sculptor Reinhold Begas since 1888, Magnussen contributed to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Nationaldenkmal. He became a freelance artist in 1893, focusing on portrait busts and figures, his sculpture group for the Berlin Siegesallee constituting one of his major works. - A few tiny ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
