Description
Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page. Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Von der Reise zurückgekehrt kommt mit Vergnügen Ihrem Wunsche nach [.]". - His work shifting from historical and mythological themes towards portraiture throughout his career, Papperitz spent seven months in Paris before being drafted as a soldier in the Franco-Prussian War. Upon his return from the front he settled in Munich and made study tours of Paris, London, Holland, Switzerland and Italy. - Some small ink spots. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
