Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - A co-founder of the artists' group "Skagen Painters", Ancher is widely known for his paintings of fishermen and the Skagen scenery, combining realism with the notions of classical composition. - Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
