First Edition. 8vo, in the publisher's original printed wrappers. This is a fine copy with the yap edges in near fine condition and the slightest trace of darkening at the edges.
Edizione: the author's first book. there are several themes at work in this play mostly about the nature of southern small town life. it takes on a rather mystical angel at various times through the elusive character of the conjure man.<br> produced on stage in 1940, its initial run was quite brief (only about a week) and it was not published until six years later. it was reworked into 'orpheus descending' in the 1950s, after williams had established a name for himself.
