Large 4to. 4 vols. With the frequently lacking engr. portrait frontispiece, engr. plate, and an engraving in the text. Contemp. calf with giltstamped label to spine. All edges red. marbled endpapers. Only German edition of this important study of the history of Naples up to the year 1735. The Naples jurist and historian Giannone was persecuted by the inquisition for his critical views on the Roman Curia; the book was banned (cf. Reusch II, 777f.). - The plate opposite p. 195 in vol. 1 shows coins; the text engraving on p. 129 of vol.
