Léon Dorez, author of "Nouvelles recherches sur Michel-Ange et son entourage" (1918) complained that while researching his book, he was unable to find a copy of the "Carte Michelangiolesche inedite" in Paris, Florence, or Milan, because it was already "introuvable".
