Description

16mo., Second Edition, very neat lengthy contemporary inscription on front free endpaper, title and facing leaf lightly spotted; tastefully bound in contemporary full grained calf, sides with frame border in blind, back with five bands, second compartment lettered in gilt, gilt edges, primrose endpapers, blue silk marker, hinges open (but binding entirely sound), small nick at upper edge of upper joint, a most attractive copy in wholly unrestored contemporary binding. A bright copy, fresh and clean internally, bound without the advertisement leaf which is sometimes present. This second edition, with notes by Sara Coleridge, is greatly eXpanded (from 95 to 289 pages). It adds a new advertisement and extended introduction by Joseph Henry Green, philosopher and friend of STC. It retains the advertisement to the first edition of 1840. Shepherd, p.65; Wise 89.
