Description

Paris, Gide et J. Baudry, 1841. Large 4to (32 x 25 cm). 31 pp.; three finely hand-coloured plates. Disbound. = A very rare paper on nocturnal birds of prey, (i.e., owls) with the description and illustration of new and poorly known species, from South America, and Madagascar. The French zoologist Jacques Pucheran (1817-1894) published more on birds and mammals and accompanied the expedition on the Astrolabe (1837 and 1840), under the command of Jules Dumont d'Urville, together with Jacques Bernard Hombron and Honoré Jacquinot. The illustrations, drawn by Werner and engraved by Annedouche, are excellent. Published in the Muséum's Archives, volumes 4. Uncut. Some very light, marginal spotting, small repair to one fore-margin, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Ronsil, p. 408.
