Five parts in one volume, 4to (238x173 mm). [12], 43, [5], 26, [6], 60, [4], 58, [4], 40 pp. The pagination includes a beautifully engraved title (Incoronatione del Sereniss. Gio: Giacomo Imperiale Duce di Genova), showing the allegory of Liguria and Corsica sitting next to each other with their hands intertwining in the center right below the eagle of the Imperiale Tartaro family and right above a bust of Janus Bifrontus; a general typographic title bearing the printer's device at the center; and four section titles: I) La modestia politica celebrata nella persona del Serenissimo Gio: Giacomo Imperiale Doge di Genova dall'Astratto, Accademico Solitatio; II) Il Principe Christiano ombreggiato nella Chiesa Catedrale di Genova dal P.D. Lorenzo Biffi da Bergamo, Chierico Regolare. Nella Coronatione del Serenissimo Doge Gio: Giacomo Imperiale, la seconda Domenica di Ottobre 1617; III) Nella Coronatione del Serenissimo Gio: Giacomo Imperiale, Duce della Repubblica di Genova. Poesie; IV) In serenissimum Ioannem Iacobum Imperialem Genuensis Reipublicae Ducem Carmina. Contemporary stiff vellum with lettering piece on spine (a few small hole to spine, book block slightly detached from the volume at the back). Curious printing error on the section title of part four. Two worm track to the first four leaves slightly affecting the envraving and the text, some minor occasional foxing, pp. 5-8 of section three stained and with small holes (one affecting the text), large stain to the lower margin of pp. 1-8 of section five, all in all a good, genuine copy.
Rare first and only edition of this celebratory publication, edited by Pietro Petracci and by him dedicated to Giovanni Vincenzo Imperiale, which includes prose and verse texts in praise of Giovanni Giacomo Imperiale Tartaro (1554-1622) for his election in 1617 as doge of the Republic of Genoa. Among the contributors are Claudio Achillini, Fortunio Liceti, Giacomo Peri, Tommaso Stigliani and many others.
