Paris, Armand Colin, 1943-1946. Three volumes in three. 4to (28.0 x 22.2 cm). lviii, 1,714 pp. Numerous geological maps, profiles, portraits. Original uniform printed wrappers. = Margerie published a Catalogue des bibliographies géologiques which covered the years up to 1895. This is a much more important large monograph on the history of geology from the crucial years of 1882 to 1942. It contains portraits of geologists, exemples, in facsimile, of their handwriting, excerpts of their most important papers, lists of their publications, etc., etc. The long introduction actually forms such a biography of Emmanuel Marie Pierre Martin Jacquin de Margerie (1862-1953) himself. Rare. Not in the Cat. BM(NH). Only in DSB, there quoted as having four volumes the last one published in 1948. First two volumes with a handwritten and dated (1946) dedication by the author, the third has a small author's stamp. These present volumes, published during WWII, were badly distributed. Uncut. Bindings a bit weak for these hefty tomes, that of volume III reinforced with tape. DSB IX, p. 104.
