Description

Prag, Gottlieb Haase, 1811. 8vo (18.0 x 10.6 cm). [iv], viii, 209 pp.; two large, folded engraved plates (views). Contemporary quarter calf over marbled boards. Spine with red morocco label with gilt title boards. = A rare work describing a Bohemian Spa, the mineral waters and geology. The two large engraved plates show the town Liebwerda, and the nearby Friedland, now Frýdlant, Castle. Lázne Libverda in Czechia still is an important spa, just south of the border with Poland. The work was written by Franz Ambros Reuss (1761-1830) who also wrote the important Mineralogische Geographie in Böhmen (1793-1797) and who is the father of the more widely known palaeontologist August Emanuel Reuss (1811-1873). Light shelfwear, remnant of a printed note pasted on the front free endpaper recto, otherwise an excellent clean copy. Ward and Carozzi, 1866.
