Description

Hardcover, 216 pages, 25x18cm, Illustrated. ISBN 9789493409514. Enrique Marty (born 1969 in Salamanca, Spain) is a contemporary Spanish artist known for his expressive and often provocative work across painting, sculpture, installation, and video. He studied at the University of Salamanca, and his artistic practice delves into themes such as the grotesque, the absurd, and the complexities of human relationships. Marty?s work is highly theatrical and often unsettling. He draws on influences from pop culture, horror cinema, and personal experience to create scenes that expose the darker side of everyday life. His art frequently blends realism with distortion, producing a surreal and emotionally charged atmosphere. He has exhibited internationally at major institutions such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sof a (Madrid), MoMA PS1 (New York), and the S.M.A.K. Museum (Ghent). His works are included in many prominent public and private collections around the world. One of his notable projects is ?The Raft? (2017), a series that reimagines historical connections between Spain and the Low Countries. In this project, Marty uses painting as a narrative tool to explore shared myths and conflicts, functioning as a modern reinterpretation of history painting. In 2024, he presented the exhibition ?De Profundis? in the Cathedral of Antwerp, a site-specific project that highlights his engagement with European cultural and spiritual heritage.
