First Edition, large 4to, 249pp., ex-library, 61 plates (some coloured), illustrs., in the text, upper inner hinges split, orig. decorated cloth, spine slightly soiled, uncut. Splendid publication on Spanish Bookbinding from the earliest times to the 19th century. The plates reproduced very fine specimens of Spanish bindings and provide extensive material for the study of a subject on which there has been little authoritative research. Many of these bindings may indeed be compared to the best work of the greatest binders of other European countries.
