Description
FIRST EDITION of these old French fragments concerning the life of St. Thomas a Becket. 2 leaves; xlii, 37 pp.; 1 leaf plus 8 fine heliogravure facsimiles, reproducing the manuscripts of the fragments. A SPECIAL LARGE-PAPER COPY ON IMPERIAL JAPANESE PAPER. The regular edition of this book was printed on laid paper, and 100 copies were also printed on Whatman wove. There is no mention anywhere of copies printed on Japan. In fact, despite being the only book dealer in the world with a strong focus on first editions of medieval French texts, I have never seen ANY copy of ANY publication of the Societe des Anciens Textes Francais printed on Japan. Title-page printed in red and black. 4to. Attractively bound in recent marbled boards, original parchment wraps preserved. Entirely uncut and unopened. Slight chipping to wraps, else FINE AND BRIGHT. Bossuat 3391; Vicaire I, 59.
