Gonzaga La Celeste Galeria Il Museo dei Duchi di Mantova

Mantova, Palazzo Te - Palazzo Ducale, Il Museo dei Duchi di Mantova, 2 settembre - 8 dicembre 2002.

La mostra vuole suggerire, sintetizzando per insiemi, la situazione delle raccolte ducali anteriormente a queste vicende: un attimo prima della morte di Ferdinando Gonzaga, quel Vi duca che aveva sistemato le raccolte, sue e dei suoi avi, secondo la propria personale visione del mondo, che era anche la più aggiornata scienza espositiva messa in pratica in Europa.
Si sono ricondotti qui quadri, armi, bronzetti, codici musicali, oggetti di cristallo, gioielli e reliquiari, tele che decoravano il Palazzo Ducale, e sono stati sistemati nella loro corrispondenza primitiva, che è tuttavia ancora mutila per l'impossibilità di ritrovare oggi tutto ciò che il tempo ha sottratto. Nonostante questo, dopo quasi quattro secoli, i quadri e gli oggetti sono stati accostati gli uni agli altri, cosi come li aveva sistemati Ferdinando Gonzaga, per riprendere a dialogare tra loro, proponendo intrecci e accostamenti che a noi moderni, per la loro lontananza, era impossibile decodificare.

This exhibition is meant to suggest, summarizing through sets and groups, the configuration of the ducal collections before these events: an instant prior to the death of Ferdinando Gonzaga, the Sixth Duke who had arranged the collections, his own and those of his forefathers, in keeping with his personal vision of the world, which was also the most advanced exhibit system to be found in the Europe of the period.
We have brought back to this site today paintings, weapons, bronze statuettes, musical codices, objects made of crystal, jewels and reliquaries, and canvases that decorated the Ducal Palace in its original array and arranged them in their original settings, though it is still impossible to find everything that time has taken away. Despite this, nearly four centuries after, the paintings and other objects have been set one aside the other, just as Ferdinando Gonzaga had arranged them, and, as they begin to interact with one another, offering juxtapositions and interweavings that for us moderns, at this distance, would result indecipherable.
