8vo., First Edition, with a portrait frontispiece and 3 maps; red cloth, gilt back, a very good, clean copy in the dustwrapper, the latter lightly frayed and creased at edges. 'Tavish' Davidson was Haig's DMO from 1915 to the Armistice. In this early and key study, the author defends his former commander's later (and controversial) strategy using both his own knowledge and a variety of contemporary sources. The first edition is now very scarce, especially in this condition. Enser, p.160.
