Descrizione

Ein sehr gutes Exemplar. - Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Dr. Wolfram Kleiss, langjigem Direktor des Deutschen Archogischen Instituts Teheran. Mit Glossar und englischer Zusammenfassung. -- Kltepe (trk. -- This publication includes letters (Nos. 1-77) and documents (Nos. 78 - 121) from Kltepe bought originally by W. S. Golenischeff in Kayseri and now preserved at the State Hermitage, Leningrad and at the State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow. Ten letters and fourteen documents of our edition have been published previously by W. S. Golenischeff in hand-copy (Vlngt-quatre tablettes cappadociennes, St.-Petersbourg, 1891), and six letters, six documents and fragments - by W. Shileico in hand-copy and partly in transcription and translation . Of these fifteen tablets (Nos. 78-79, 83,86, 91 96-98, 101, 103, 105-108, of our edition) have been included in G. Eisser's and J. Lewy's ,Die Altassyrischen Rechtsurkunden von Kltepe", All the other tablets are published here for the first time. Excavations at the site of the commercial settlement of Kanis, or karum (Kiiltepe), have shown that the population of the kUrum was not so uniform ethnically as had originally been thought. The northern part of the site was inhabited by Semites (Assyrians and Amorites), and by Hurrians, i. e. by merchants from Syria and Mesopotamia, the southern part - mainly by Proto-Hittites, Hittites and Luvians, while the centre with its shops etc. had a mixed population. The analysis of the theophorous PN shows that merchants were named after the gods of Syria and of the country along the Euphrates as frequently as after the god Assur, and at least a part of the names with Assur may originate from Ursu in Commagene (S. 241)
