Description

Lyon, Yvernault et Cabin, 1811. 8vo (21.2 x 14.0 cm). xv, [i] 171 pp.; five folded engraved plates. Later half vellum over marbled boards, hand-written title on the spine. = A major work on birds taxidermy by the French naturalist, botanist and ornithologist Marie Jacques Philippe Mouton-Fontenille de La Clotte (1769-1837). Earlier editions were co-authored by the botanist and ornithologist Jacques Marie Hénon (1749-1807), who is sometimes listed as first author, although his name does not appear on the title of this, final edition. It has the same amount of plates as the 1802 first which is much more common. Uncut. Old inscription (signature) in the top margin of the title page. Some foxing throughout but mostly only in the margins. A very good copy. Cat. BM(NH) Supplement, p. 874; Ronsil, 2096. Not in Nissen.
