Two volumes in one, complete. A LARGE-PAPER COPY OF THE FIRST AND ONLY EDITION OF THIS FACING-PAGE BILINGUAL CRITICAL EDITION OF TACITUS. Main volume; 3, xcvii, 5, 331 pp. Atlas: 12 plates (four of which are colored by hand) with facing-page letterpress descriptions, including map. The main volume is a special large-paper copy printed 4to on fine laid paper (only 4to copies could be bound together with the atlas, which is always 4to). The atlas is a special copy with the plates on chine appliqué. 4to. Bound in contemporary quarter calf and decorated boards by Thouvenin (signed). Binding worn, especially at spine. Upper joint split but structurally tight and solid. All edges marbled. A bit of light foxing, else internally clean. Complete large-paper copies are very rare.
