Description
In 1925 Giò Colucci executed fourteen etchings to illustrate Octave Mirbeau's "Le jardin des supplices", and the result was one of the greatest livres de peintre produced between the world wars. The etchings combine Japonisme, eclecticism, art nouveau, surrealism, and eroticism. They represent Colucci's greatest achievement as a printmaker. THIS IS A PROOF SET, on Imperial Japanese paper, of the fourteen etchings, each hand-colored by the artist with gouache and gold leaf. In perfect condition. No other such sets (on Japanese paper and handcolored by the artist) are recorded, so this set may be unique.
