Description

Paris, Haut-Commissariat de la République française en Syrie et au Liban. Service des Travaux publics - Section d'études géologiques, 1940. 4to (28.0 x 23.9 cm). 292 pp.; 190 text figures, 11 plates with explanatory text leaves, four maps. Original printed wrappers. = An important contribution to the knowledge of the Mesozoic molluscs (in particular Jurassic) of the Middle East. The shells are generally rather poorly preserved, but the line drawings in the text are very good, with much emphasis on the taxonomically important parts. Several species are new. This is the thesis of Geneviève Delpey (1917-2005), however, this copy was published in the Commissariat's Notes et Mémoires de la Section d'Études géologiques, volume III. The thesis edition is more common. However, in this edition there are several other palaeontological papers dealing with malaco-faunas of the same region, as follows: J. Roger Pectinidés Miocènes, Pliocènes et Quaternaires de Syrie; F. Roman, Listes raisonnées des faunes du Pliocène et du Miocène de Syrie et du Liban (both well-illustrated, showing well-preserved specimens and including new species); and É. Basse (on ammonites, also well-illustrated and with new species). A small paper by R. Dubertret deals with foraminifers. Uncut. Small stamp of P. M. V. Rabault in the top margin of the front free endpaper. Binding weak due to the heavy book block. Internally a very good, clean copy.
