Description

AN UNPUBLISHED AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT BY BY NOTED NAPOLEONIC MILITARY FIGURE JULES-ANTOINE PAULIN (1782-1876). 68 pp. of neat cursive script in black ink on fine laid paper, titled at the beginning and signed at the end. The manuscript is an intimate and detailed (about 20,000 words) account of the Battle of Burgos (also called the "Battle of Gamonal", 1808), and Paulin's subsequent captivity in Badajoz. This is the first manuscript Paulin devoted to his military adventures, and is complete in itself, but he would go on to write a few others. These manuscripts were inherited by his great-nephew Raymond Paulin-Ruelle, who used them as the basis of a popular account of Paulin´s career: "Les souvenirs du Général Baron Paulin (1782-1876)" Paris: Plon, 1895 (full view available on the Internet.) Folio. Carefully stitched. FINE AND BRIGHT, IN PRISTINE CONDITION. A UNIQUE AND IMPORTANT HISTORICAL DOCUMENT DESCRIBING KEY EVENTS IN NAPOLEON'S SPANISH CAMPAIGN.
