Description
London, The British Museum of Natural History, 1965-1969. 8vo (23.5 x 17.9 cm) 221 [96; 125] pp.; 43 [14; 29] plates. Contemporary blue buckram with gilt bands and title on the spine. original printed wrappers bound in. = Two papers published as Bulletin of the British Museum (Natural History) Supplement. The firs paper (Supplement I) is an indispensable item in identifying the shells described by a pioneer-malacologist in the South Seas. The paper by Taylor et al. (Supplement III) is well-illustrated - with early use of SEM photography - and deals with bivalve evolution. In between is Supplement II, a paper by P. J. P. Whitehead, titled The clupeoid fishes described by Lacèpede, Cuvier & Valenciennes (180 pp., 11 plates) which is of great importance to ichthyological taxonomy. An excellent, attractively bound volume with the first three Supplements - all of taxonomical importance - and - surprisingly - entirely without any library marking.
