Today Flora is commonly associated with flowers and with the wonderful portrait that Botticelli made of her in his well-known Primavera. For ancient Romans however, she was a far more complex goddess than what may be expected. Her main feature being her domain over the flowering process, it must nonetheless be originally connected to the agricultural sphere and to the edible plants and only later on gradually extend to the ornamental plants as well. This process provides an effective demonstration of how Flora ? just like all other ancient deities ? wasn?t perceived as an unchanging entity, but on the contrary she adapted to the changes of times and traditions.
