Original blue printed upper wrapper cover, bound within half-leather boards with gilt spine title. First edition of de Gaulles' war memoirs (the first of the three volumes published), inscribed, dated and signed by the General to the great-grandson of Karl Marx, the French politician Paul Longuet (1909-79): "à Paul Longuet, bien cordialement et en souvenir de la grande épreuve. 22.8.58. C. de Gaulle". - Paul Longuet was the son of the socialist Edgar Longuet, whose parents were the Proudhonist Charles Longuet and Marx's eldest daughter, Jenny Caroline. - Slight foxing to endpapers. The final page states: "Cet ouvrage, tiré sur spécial mat des Papeteries Teka, a été achevé d'imprimer, le 15 Novembre 1954, sur les presses de l'Imprimerie Plon, a Meaux (Seine-et-Marne)"; numéro de publication: 7687; numéro d'impression: 6690.
