Advertising leaflet extolling the benefits of a liquor specifically created by the Discalced Carmelite fathers of the monastery of Santa Maria della Scala in Rome to combat pestilential vapors and thus enable the fathers to better care for the sick. But the merits of the balm also extend to the treatment of fever, toothache, stomach weakness, and so on. A footnote warns against amateurs who have tried to imitate the original product but whose liquors do not actually contain any real active ingredients.
