Description

Berlin, Georg Reimer, 1868. Two parts (text and atlas) in two. 4to (28.5 x 22.9 cm; ). xii, 116 pp.; green quarter cloth over green boardswith printed label on spine; oblong folio (34.0 x 25.2 cm), 20 lithographed plates of which one coloured; loose in green portfolio with printed label. = Part of the zoological results of an expedition to the then little explored southeastern coasts of Africa, opposite Madagascar, now known as Moçambique (Mozambique, German: Mosambik). The subtropical fauna has many endemic elements and therefore it does not come as a surprise that this early exploration yielded many new species. The complete zoology deals with mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. This is the fish section with fresh and brackish water fish, including a new shark. The bindings are matching in colour and material. Some dampstaining to the last leaves of the text volume; plates in very good condition, bright, clean. Dean II, p. 255; Nissen ZBI, 3139.
