The year is 2081. The world population is estimated at 10 billion. Mining of iron ore is banned under international anti-pollution measures. All Iron based materials are produced from ore mined and processed on Mars in an international penal colony. The mining operations are in their early stages, with geo-scientists prospecting for new deposits Martin Cain, a geophysicist, is assigned to Mars sector A3 to prospect for super-rich iron ore ferromite. During routine drilling he discovers a fossil, which could confound the course of recorded history on Earth. Eager to report the find, he becomes the victim of the organisation and officially disappears.
