Torino, Accademia reale delle Scienze di Torino, 1851. 4to (26.5 x 22.7 cm). 63 pp.; six engraved, folded plates (one larger). Contemporary blind wrappers. = Rare paper by the Italian zoologist Eugenio Sismonda (1815-1870) on a well-preserved fossil elephant with detailed illustrations. The very large triple-folded plate shows the whole skeleton with the bones that are missing in outline and those recovered in detail. Several terrestrial gastropod shells are pictured in the foreground, perhaps from the same layer, but not drawn to scale. Offprint from the academy's Memorie, volume 12. One caption a bit shaved, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
