Description
Original bdg. HC. In special publisher's slip-case.Oblong 4to. (30 x 30 cm). In English. 219 p., color ills. The Book of Ottoman Headgears (Osmanli Serpuslari) by H. Necdet Isli is the first comprehensive work in the area and also a reading recommend on Ottoman social structure with aspects to headgear figures in Ottoman tombstones. Taking various tombstone headgear figures representing status diversities as starter, the book tries to articulate the social richness in Istanbul during Ottoman era and thus appears to be a reference book as a contribution to urban awareness for cultural values. In the Ottoman society where the art of sculpture practically did not exist, the tombstones were an important part of the city culture, almost an art by itself with peculiar stone crafting and scribing on them.
