Description

15 parts plus the general introduction, title-page, and table of contents bound in one, A COMPLETE SET OF THIS IMPORTANT AND BEAUTIFULLY-PRODUCED COMPILATION OF LATE MEDIEVAL FRENCH LITERATURE. Some of the texts appear here in first edition. Edited by Francisque Michel, printed by Crapelet, and published by Silvestre. EACH PART PRINTED IN AN EDITION OF ONLY 100 COPIES, WHICH MAKES COMPLETE SETS LIKE THIS ONE EXTREMELY RARE. Beautifully printed in black-letter (Gothic) types and illustrated with original woodcuts including one printed in red. THIS IS A PROOF COPY (with the manuscript note "mise en train" under the justification) IN WHICH THE 15 PIECES ARE PRINTED ON 3 DIFFERENT KINDS OF PAPER. The final piece, the heretofore unpublished "Farce de la pipee", is on China paper, and is perhaps unique in that state (Monmerqué had a copy on China, described in the catalogue of his sale--lot 1389--as unique. This may be the same copy.) Mounted on the half-title is the original drawing for a woodcut intended for this edition but not used. 4to. Attractively bound in recent cloth. Uncut. Some parts have spotting because of the paper used. Else an excellent and singular copy of a very rare book. Brunet IV, 754; Viollet le Duc I, 96-103 (with a lengthy description of the contents, including excerpts); Vicaire VI, 739-742 (with a detailed collation).
