Lille, Six-Horemans, 1877. 4to (27.3 x 22.1 cm). 305 pp., several text engravings, 16 lithographed plates of which four partly in chromolithography. Later marbled boards. Spine with black morocco label with gilt title. = A fine monograph, perhaps the first on the ontogeny of the Bryozoa. The marine biologist and embryologist Jules Henri Barrois (1852-1943) was director of the "Laboratoire de Zoologie Maritime" à Villefranche sur Mer. The plates are very fine and printed by the Dutch artist and printer P. W. Trap. With small printed label "hommage de l'auteur" in the top margin of the half-title. A very good, clean copy. The later binding is very well-done and attractive. Nissen ZBI, 239.
