Description

London, Her Majesty's Stationery Office, 1884-1886. Two parts in two. 4to (31.7 x 25.4 cm). 266 pp. [130; 136]; ten lithographed plates [7; 3] with explanatory text leaves. Disbound. = The seldom-seen anthropological and anatomical parts of the expedition's results. Written by the British brain surgeon and professor of anatomy, Sir William Turner (1832-1916). The work deals with crania from the Admiralty Islands, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Patagonia, South Africa, and more. The second part's plates show pelvises. The author draws conclusions about the origin of several groups of people, as well as their distance from "apes". Both parts disbound, of which one showing this in being a bit cocked near the spine. Some light spotting to a few text pages, otherwise very good. Nissen ZBI, 4754.
