3 vols., 8vo., First Editions, with 3 portrait frontispieces, 13 plates, and front and rear endpaper maps in first volume; decorative cloth blocked in blind, gilt backs, covers very slightly dulled, fore-edges dusty, backstrip of first volume heavily browned (but all gilt still legible) else a good, sound, firm working set. One of the outstanding biographies of the twentieth century, the trilogy comprises 'The Man in the Making' (1933), 'The Years of Peril' (1935) and 'The Saviour of the Navy' (1938).
