Description

Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Dr. Wolfram Kleiss, langjigem Leiter der Aunstelle Teheran des Deutschen Archogischen Instituts. Einband leicht berieben. Umschlag leicht defekt. - The writer is an authority on Isfahan and its surroundings and this work is the result of his researches in the history, archaeology and " on the spot " study of an ancient stronghold known as Shah Diz, occupied by Isma'ilis during the Saljuq period. He throws fresh light on the antiquity of Isfahan and shows that it had been one of the earliest military " especially cavalry " centres in Iran where the horse, "Asp", had stamped its name indelibly. He treats the Isma'ili history in a modern scientific light, and refutes the spiteful recordings by adverse historians and considers the organised emergence of that sect as a healthy nationalistic reaction in Iran. He describes the ruins in detail, discusses its planning, construction, the means and methods of warfare of its last period and leads the reader to picture, in the best way possible, the siege of the fortress and its terrible ending.
