About the Book:-It is needlessly to say that the value of the author’s work at the present day is principally geographical and ethnological. Some of his historical references are of considerable importance, but, as he has distinctly stated himself, his object was not to write a history, but to describe the people and the country and its products. This two volumes of book has immense value as it translated from the Portuguese Text First Published in 1812 A.D. by the Royal Academy of Sciences at Lisbon, in Vol. II of its Collection of Documents regarding the History and Geography of the nations beyond the seas', edited and annotated by Mansel Longworth Dames. It contains an account of the countries bordering on the Indian Ocean and their inhabitants. He completed it about the year 1518 A.D. The first volume covers the coasts of East Africa, Arabia, Persia and Western India as far as the Kingdom of Vijayanagar, while the second volume contains the coasts of Malabar, Eastern India, further India, China and the Indian archipelago. This is a new print-on-demand hardback edition of the volume first published in 1921.
