Description

Spine a bit faded. ; Millet was an American painter and writer. He was best friends with Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain). He also knew the famous portait artist John Singer Sargent. The family's rose garden was where Sargent drew some of his portraits. Millet's daugther Kate was repeatedly posing as a model for Singer Sargent. The author was helping with the World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago (1893) and was a trustee for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Expedition to the Philippines was one of his later works. He died in 1912 on board the Titanic. ; B&W Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; xi, 275 pages
