Description
Budapest, The office of the Congress, 1891. 8vo (21.9 x 13.9 cm). 45 pp. Original printed wrappers. = A seldom-seen zoogeographical, or - rather - ornithogeographical study by one of the most knowledgeable ornithologists of the 19th century, Philip Lutley Sclater (1829-1913). He noted, for instance, that "the Hawaiian Avifauna is so peculiar in its character that it must necessarily be referred to a division separate from the rest of the Pacific Islands". He ends with a call to his fellow ornithologists to produce seven new works on seven faunas to fill gaps in knowledge, for instance, number 3: "A synopsis of the birds of the Sunda Islands and other islands of the Malay Archipelago down to Wallace's line". A very good, clean, unmarked copy. Very uncommon, especially in this excellent state. Goode (1896) The Published Writings of Philip Lutley Sclater, 1128.
