8vo., First Edition thus, with a frontispiece toned in sepia, small neat contemporary signature on half-title; handsomely bound in full green morocco, back gilt with raised bands, pictorial gilt 'mistletoe' emblem from front board mounted on new leaf at front, uncut, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. Complete with 4pp publisher's catalogue bound in at end. Frazer's masterwork first appeared in two volumes in 1890, with a second edition in three volumes in 1900. This is the first appearance of the abridged edition. 'While the bulk of the book has been greatly reduced, I have endeavoured to to retain its leading principles, together with an amount of evidence sufficient to illustrate them clearly' (Author's Preface).
