Description
Signed, without inscription, by author atop front free endpaper. 86 pages. Five black and white reproductions of photos. "A greenhorn Englishman's experiences in Canada are the subject of this interesting collection of episodes and anecdotes. Birkett began as a teacher in various boys' schools in London, then emigrated to Western Canada where his first job was as a teacher in a one-room prairie schoolhouse. These and later events are recalled with wry humor and a gift for observation. Most of Canada in the early decades of the twentieth century was still a remote frontier country, and this fact is emphatically communicated in the author's descriptions of the local scenes and characters he encountered." - dust jacket. Unmarked with average wear. Dust jacket protected by mylar. Binding intact. A sound signed copy of this engaging compilation. Book
